The purpose of this paper is to provide educators with information about mathematics anxiety. The focus is on characteristics, causes, and possible solutions for victims of this disorder. The first section of the paper provides a statement of the problem defines the purpose, organization, and limitations of the study, and includes a glossary. The second section presents an annotated bibliography, divided into three parts: (1) what is math anxiety (definition, characteristics, causes, and symptoms); (2) who experiences the effects of math anxiety (results and significant factors); and (3) are there solutions to the problem (reduction and elimination of math anxiety). In the third section, these studies and other papers are summarized, conclusions are drawn, and 11 recommendations are listed, directed for the most part toward teachers and other educators.
