This Reclaiming Intervention is an excellent example of the notion that life is a watercolor. Tricia Jump's interview demonstrates how a patient, caring adult can bring comfort and hope to a child experiencing some very difficult and painful life events. KC, a ten year old girl, is typical of many children whose home lives are turbulent. In some ways she blames herself for the problems between her mother, father, and step-mother. Everything she touches seems to turn to trouble. After all the trouble in the office, KC is finally ready for some relief and Ms. Jump is able to drain her off and conducts a Red Flag Tap In/Massaging Numb Values Reclaiming Intervention. She helps KC regain some sense of control and uses cognitive restructuring to change KC's perception of herself from someone out of control to someone who has some control. This is exactly what KC needs in order to pull herself together. Next, Ms. Jump offers KC some hope that she can learn to be in charge of her behavior and does not have to be a victim of her feelings. Ms. Jump follows up with the other staff and arranges for KC to apologize. This is important as it allows KC to deal with some of the tremendous guilt she bears. Finally, she arranges an alternative consequence for the misbehavior on the bus that will not add to the stress at home.
