In this article, the author describes her experiences of developing new child care sites and offers five important lessons that she learned through her experiences which helped her to create successful child care centers. These lessons include: (1) Finding an appropriate area and location; (2) Creating realistic financial projections based on real numbers; (3) Determining an appropriate purchase price or lease amount; (4) Acquiring financing--selling the project to banks or financial institutions; and (5) Remaining positive and stressing the benefits of the project while going through public hearings and the building process.
