The Last Word: An Interview with Gene Chasin, CEO of Accelerated Schools Plus
Siegle, Del
Journal of Advanced Academics, v18 n1 p146-154 Fall 2006
This article presents an interview with Gene Chasin, CEO of Accelerated Schools Plus. Chasin discusses changing schools and improving student achievement. Accelerated Schools is a national endeavor that is designed to transform whole school communities. It views the community as being much broader. It includes students, teachers, parents, other citizens in the community, businesses in the community, and service organizations in the community. It is not only anyone who potentially has impact on the child, but also anyone who has any kind of interest in children or a financial stake through taxes in the school. Moreover, Accelerated Schools try to create an environment where the entire community takes responsibility and ownership for what is happening in the schoolhouse. They invest in the vision, in what they want the school to become, in how success will be measured, in the governance of the school, and in the school decision-making process.
