Hylen, Jan
Clearing House, v77 n5 p219 May-Jun 2004
Many teachers think too little about the role of the library media specialist in their professional lives, and because of this oversight they underutilize this great resource. This article explains the top ten reasons why teachers should work with their library media specialists: (1) Improving test scores and enhancing student academic achievement; (2) Easing teacher workload; (3) Providing emotional support to teachers; (4) Advising teachers on copyright laws and plagiarism; (5) Helping students with search strategies and distillation of information; (6) Selecting appropriate curriculum material; (7) Familiarizing students and teachers with the library resources; (8) Integrating material into interdisciplinary curriculum units; (9) Recommending current books to promote reading for enjoyment and literacy; and (10) Providing students with equal access to the Internet and other materials needed for their schoolwork.
