Graduate Student Orientation Program. Bowling Green State University.
Martin-Reynolds, Joanne; Hurley, Marian Smith
Information on the graduate student orientation program at Bowling Green State University is presented. The orientation program serves about 500 graduate students during the summer and about 100 additional students during the fall and spring semesters. The program is designed to support the graduate students' teaching and research skills and to offer assistance with resources. Approximately 40 graduate orientation leaders who represent the academic departments serve as mentors to incoming teaching and research assistants/fellows and plan departmental programs with faculty and administrators. For the August 1986 orientation program, more than 120 presenters were scheduled to provide students with flexibility in choosing from generic sessions and departmental programs. Generic sessions include teaching, research, and personal and professional development. Information is included on the registration process and program evaluations. A New Horizons orientation booklet is included and provides: a list of orientation leaders and their departments, an orientation schedule, names and associations of presenters, and brief descriptions of orientation sessions/presentations.
