Pornography has become part of mainstream culture. As such, it has become a subject of academic research, and this, in turn, has implications for university libraries. Focusing on adult Internet pornography, this study suggests that academic libraries should provide access to adult pornographic Web sites by including them in their online catalogs.

Views research libraries as posing unique problems for a governance structure because of their ready access to private funding and relative immunity from legislative control. Cited as functions of a governance structure are establishment of policy and development of network standards. (SW)

Research libraries are struggling with immense problems; hence, now may be a propitious time to begin a dialogue on the requirements for a national policy and then to establish one that will link government agencies and the research library community and preserve the rights of individuals.
