World History & Art Transparencies [Strategies & Activities].
Mittler, Gene A.
Art reflects the ideas, experiences, spirit, and hopes of those who create it. It is through art works that students can see a visual record of how men and women lived and thought throughout history and across cultures. This instructional resource includes 52 transparencies, accompanying teaching strategies, and student worksheets which are designed to enrich and extend student understanding of world history. The teaching strategies for each transparency begin with a learning objective and teacher guided activity. Discussion questions follow. A section, "Events in History," sets each work in its historical context. The reproducible student activity worksheets provide background information about the art work and artists represented, and set the art works in historical context. Questions require students to focus on the art elements, compositions, expressive content, and subject matter of the images. Each worksheet concludes with a list of student extension activities based on the transparency and the corresponding historical period. A glossary and a "Chronology of Selected Periods, Styles, and Artists," concludes the resource. (MM)
