Classroom Grammar of Koniag Alutiiq, Kodiak Island Dialect. Volume I: Units 1-20. Preliminary Draft.
Leer, Jeff
This text for use in teaching Koniag Alutiiq, the Kodiak Island dialect of Alutiiq, contains 20 units on its phonology, morphology, and grammar. Each unit consists of 4 to 13 lessons. The alphabet used is one developed for the Kenai Peninsula dialect and adapted slightly for Koniag Alutiiq. The first unit focuses on phonological patterns and prosodic rules. The second addresses the treatment of number in grammar. Subsequent units present a comprehensive grammar. Each unit contains vocabulary lists and some units also include a folk tale text. The textbook was developed with the extensive assistance of Alaskan native speakers. Appendices include noun and verb endings, a vocabulary list, and lists of postbases and enclitics. (MSE)
