Blachowicz, Camile L. F.; And Others – Illinois School Research and Development, 1979
First-graders taught reading by phonics or language experience approach were compared on their ability to orally decode lists of words identified as either real or nonsense words. The two groups did not differ in overall correct responses, nor were their strategies influenced by the "real/nonsense" directions. (SJL)

Putnam, Lillian R. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1981
The Minnesota Percepto-Diagnostic Test (MPDT) classifies remedial readers into three groups: primary, secondary, organic. This study of subjects aged 7-22 sought to determine if a significant negative relationship existed between (MPDT) scores and reading achievement and if error patterns differ significantly within and between the…

Hoogstraten, Joh. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1979
The biasing effects of a pretest on subsequent post-test results were investigated in two experimental studies. In general, the results argue for using designs without pretests. (Author/JKS)

Blaha, John; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1979
The relative importance of different cognitive subprocesses in Bender performance was studied with Black middle-class first graders. Results suggest that the Bender owes much of its clinical validity to loadings across all stages of human information processing. Kagan's hypothesis on conceptual tempo in Bender performance is also analyzed. (SJL)

Dean, Raymond S. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1979
Matched samples of Mexican American and Anglo children with learning difficulty referrals were compared on WISC-R subtest performance. The Mexican Americans scored significantly lower on Similarities, Arithmetic, and Picture Completion. Their Verbal and Performance IQ score discrepancies suggest that the major educational problem of this group is…

Whitehill, Tara L.; Francis, Alexander L.; Ching, Christine K-Y. – Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 2003
A study examined if 10 children (ages 4-12) with repaired cleft palate who demonstrate posterior placement of alveolar targets differed from 10 children with cleft palate without such error patterns, and from 10 controls in the perception of alveolar targets. Children with posterior placement appeared unable to distinguish alveolar targets.…

Huebner, E. Scott – School Psychology Review, 1989
Fifty-six school psychologists reviewed a hypothetical case study designed to investigate their interpretations of different norm-referenced test scores. Subjects were more likely to recommend special education programs for normal students when percentile scores were used. School psychologists need to become more familiar with the properties of…

Spavold, J. – Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, 1989
Describes study of 9- to 11-year-olds conducted in Great Britain that was designed to analyze the means by which elementary school children familiarized themselves with a large database. Types of error and frequency of occurrence are examined, query formulation is discussed, and the importance of keyboard skills is addressed. (nine references)…

Huer, Mary Blake – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1989
The study evaluated the usefulness of acoustic tracking as a supplement to perceptual judgments during remediation of articulation errors with a 10-year-old. Analysis of temporal and spectral characteristics of recorded imitations of sentence stimuli were compared with perceptual judgments of articulatory change over a 70-day remediation period…

Ghadessy, Moshen – IRAL, 1989
Comparison of Chinese, Malay, and Tamil primary school students' responses to a test featuring 19 error types related to English verb structure revealed no significant differences between the three groups' selection of developmental errors.
