Evidence supporting the need for special training for educational interpreters who provide services to deaf and hard-of-hearing students in instructional settings is reviewed. A baccalaureate-level degree program for educational interpreters to be offered by a consortium of four universities in Alabama and Florida is described. (Author/DB)

A consortia model for colleges within a short distance of each other is described. Particular attention is given to the components of consortial infrastructure: the policy board and the role of the deans, the consortium director, the campus program coordinators, and the students' departmental boards. This survey of the 21 member institutions of 9 consortia in undergraduate social work education investigated the origin and development of collaborative programs, their structure and nature, and advantages and disadvantages. Results indicate that consortia that use rather than rival others' experiences are more successful. (Author/MSE)
