Vardy, Amanda – Journal of Further and Higher Education, 2022
The foundation degree was introduced by David Blunkett in England in the year 2000 to widen participation and raise the skill level of the labour market. Foundation degrees have had some successes in widening participation as they are usually vocation based and appeal to the non-typical student. However, the outlook for the foundation degree is…

Minaya, Veronica; Scott-Clayton, Judith – Education Finance and Policy, 2022
We estimate labor market returns to terminal associate's degrees and certificates, with a particular focus on how returns for different credential types evolve over a longer period of time (eleven years post entry) than most of the prior literature. Po Yang – Studies in Higher Education, 2024
The massification of higher education has dramatically changed the association between credentials and jobs in advanced countries, while its impacts in transitional economies have received less academic attention. Tucker, Frederick – Research in Higher Education Journal, 2021
Deregulation of for-profit colleges led to a precipitous rise in enrollments from 1990 to 2010. Since 2010, regulation, investigations, and sanctions have led to enrollment declines in for-profit postsecondary institutions. Initially barred from receiving Title IV federal funds, in the form of Pell Grants and Stafford Loans, for-profit colleges…

Liu, Vivian Yuen Ting – Education Finance and Policy, 2020
Despite having been the largest source of financial aid to low-income college students in the United States, the traditional Pell Grant had one major limitation: If students enrolled in two semesters full-time, they would not have had any tuition support for the summer term of the same academic year. The year-round Pell (YRP) was implemented in…

Matheny, Christopher J.; Chan, Hsun-yu; Wang, Xueli – Community College Review, 2015

Torpey, Elka – Occupational Outlook Quarterly, 2012
There are lots of ways to enter a high-paying career without having a bachelor's degree. An associate's degree, a postsecondary non-degree award, or a high school diploma--often coupled with work experience in a related occupation, on-the-job training, or both--can lead to a job that really pays off. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor…

A comparison of the earnings and work experience of associate, diploma, and baccalaureate registered nurses (RNs) found that diplomas are the least attractive route to licensing.
