Bursik, Robert J., Jr.; And Others – Youth and Society, 1985
A survey of 430 adults from the same middle-class community found that interviewees generally did not expect boy or girl adolescents to engage in certain activities (such as staying out until midnight) at different ages. However, differences were revealed in the perceived ability of the genders to handle personal responsibility. (KH)

Thompson, Elaine Adams; And Others – Youth and Society, 1982
Found that social control indicators (attachment to conventional institutions, commitment to conventional goals, involvement in conventional activities, and belief in conventional norms) predicted adolescent alcohol and drug use. However, peer relationships with drug users was the most significant predictor of drug involvement. (Author/MJL)

Presents a model of deviant behavior at three levels: the community, the social network, and the individual. Also presents results of a study, conducted in Finland, of regional differences in deviant adolescent behavior. Unofficial rates of delinquency (RDs) were studied in Japan for a representative population sample of 1,121 high school students in the Osaka prefecture, mostly from private schools. RD correlations and interpretations were compared with those of similar U.S. studies. Reasons self-reported delinquency in Japan was much lower are discussed. (SLD)
