Andrews, Sona Karentz – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1985
More than 60 different tactual maps were created on capsule paper to examine the effectiveness of this process. The medium's composition, steps necessary for map compilation and processing, equipment costs and operations, appropriate symbolization, and advantages and disadvantages of the process are discussed. (Author/CL)

Terrio, Lee; Haas, William – Volta Review, 1986
Audiometric instruments and techniques adopted to measure tactual cueing characteristics of the Radioear B70A and the Siemens Fonator electromechanical vibrators were used by young adults. The Siemens Phonator demonstrated a wider suprathreshold operating range than did the Radioear B70A. (Author/CL)

Jackson, Michael – British Journal of Visual Impairment, 1987
A means is presented for using William Moon's embossed symbols to represent musical notation for blind individuals, as an alternative to braille notation. Hinton, Ronald – British Journal of Visual Impairment, 1988
This article emphasizes the importance of good design of tactile diagrams and careful diagram use with blind children. Early educational experiences are suggested to equip blind children for most effective use of diagrams. Methods for teaching diagram use are also suggested, particularly where blind children are educated in integrated settings.…

Thurlow, W. R. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1988
Braille code is difficult to learn and discriminate tactually. A new symbol set, C5, is based on the Moon system of embossed reading and Bliss symbols. Experiments with the C5 alphabet code, printed by a braille printer, showed that subjects found braille code more difficult to learn than C5 code. (Author/JDD)

Dixon, Judith M. – Library Hi Tech, 1996
Suggests guidelines for creating World Wide Web sites that accommodate those using speech or braille aids. Hypertext Markup Language coding should provide (1) one-column format rather than side-by-side columns; (2) stand-alone hyperlinks; (3) "ALT=" attributes for image displays; (4) text alternatives to images or image maps as links or…
