The importance and need for training in various skills and knowledge for state vocational education planning personnel are discussed. Comparisons are made of responses from state directors of vocational education and state advisory council directors. Needs assessment data from states grouped by size and geographic location are contrasted. (SK)

Describes collaborative efforts between teacher education institutions and state departments of education in three states: Virginia, Illinois, and Minnesota. Projects include noncredit teacher workshops, series of needs assessments, technical updating of teachers, and internal staff development activities for teacher educators. (CT)

A study of Minnesota's population, age 16 and over, to determine their self-perceived need for job-related training, is presented, along with a description of the conceptual framework, key questions, procedure, sample data, and major uses of the study.
