Levine, Victor; Moock, Peter R. – Economics of Education Review, 1984
Examines the influence of child-related reductions in past hours worked on current wage rate of married women with children. The study reveals that differences in "intensity" of prior work experience account for half of the sex-related wage gap. (TE)
Descriptors: Employed Parents, Employed Women, Employment Practices, Flexible Working Hours

Guisinger, Stephen E.; And Others – Economics of Education Review, 1984
Examination of earnings and education data for a sample of approximately 1,600 workers in Pakistan reveals that the rate of return in earnings to schooling is low. The low rate of return appears to be a result of a conscious government policy that drastically compressed the skill-wage structure. (Author/MLF)

Dickinson, David L.; Verbeek, Roelant L. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2002
This study compared employment and wage figures for 97 college graduates previously diagnosed with learning disabilities (LD) and 1,130 comparison adults. Marcus, Richard D. – Economics of Education Review, 1986
Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Young Men, this paper reveals that earnings below expectations induce a return to school. Appended are 12 references. (MLF)
Descriptors: High Schools, Higher Education, Human Capital, Mathematical Models

Chemical and Engineering News, 1990
The annual census of industrial employment, production workers, women, the workweek, scientists and engineers, chemical employment, wages, and productivity in the chemical industry is presented. Trends in the numbers of workers, productivity, and unit labor costs are illustrated in graphs. (CW)
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Demand Occupations, Employment Patterns

Gray, Mary W. – Thought and Action, 1991
A discussion of use of multiple regression to analyze faculty salaries, specifically for job discrimination litigation, concludes that, although appropriate regression studies may not win a case, their deficiencies or absence can lose one. In addition, the more complex the salary structure, the more useful regression analysis can be. (MSE)
Descriptors: College Faculty, Court Litigation, Equal Opportunities (Jobs), Higher Education

Kontos, Susan; Stremmel, Andrew J. – Early Childhood Research Quarterly, 1988

Descriptors: Child Caregivers, Day Care Centers, Early Childhood Education, Fringe Benefits

Allard, Celia; And Others – New Directions for Institutional Research, 1985
Campuses should act on salary equity issues before litigation arises. Campuses must resolve database problems, unfocused studies, problems in data interpretations, and constraints on implementing findings if they are to take timely actions. Internally motivated monitoring and court-ordered monitoring are discussed. (Author/MLW)
Descriptors: College Administration, College Faculty, Court Litigation, Data Collection

Weiler, William C. – Economics of Education Review, 1984
This paper compares relative earnings by sex among university faculty members as estimated from both cross-section and longitudinal data samples. Results indicate substantial differences in estimated male-female salary ratios. (TE)
Descriptors: College Faculty, Economic Research, Higher Education, Longitudinal Studies

Chemical and Engineering News, 1989
Notes that the number of workers employed in the U.S. chemical industry rose again in 1988. Provides information for the years 1978-88 for the areas of industrial employment, scientist and engineer employment, corporation employment, wages, and industrial productivity. (MVL)
Descriptors: Chemical Industry, Chemical Technicians, Chemistry, Employment Level

Moore, Nelle – Research in Higher Education, 1993
Areas in which human judgment must be used to conduct a fair statistical analysis of college faculty salary equity are discussed, and guidelines for making those judgments are offered. Four decision elements and four fields of study are considered as the basis for establishing criteria for selecting the appropriate regression model. (Author/MSE)
Descriptors: College Faculty, Evaluation Criteria, Higher Education, Institutional Research

Rumberger, Russell W. – Economics of Education Review, 1987
Examines the relationship between teacher shortages and teacher salary differentials for mathematics and science teachers from a sample of school districts within large metropolitan areas. Results support the proposition that salary differentials between teachers and alternative occupations influence teacher shortages. (MLF)
Descriptors: Elementary Secondary Education, Faculty Mobility, Mathematics Teachers, Salary Wage Differentials

Psacharopoulos, George; Zabalza, Antonio – Economics of Education Review, 1984
An evaluation of the effects on employment of a new type of secondary school in Colombia offering prevocational subjects alongside the traditional curriculum is based on a follow-up survey of about 1,800 graduates three years after leaving school.
