The subordination of South Korean women, both in general and as manifested in education and employment, results from traditional patriarchal ideology derived from Confucianism and from capitalist economic development and industrialization. Discusses sex roles in the family and workplace and sex differences in school enrollments, employment, wages, and fields of study in higher education. (SV)
