ABC Women Artists, Volume 1 [and] Volume 2.
Agostino, Francita; Bellessis, Martyna Ryder
These activity/workbooks use drawings done in the style of great women artists in order to promote a knowledge of female art history through a variety of educational experiences. Volume 1 and 2 present 26 women artists (one for each letter of the alphabet) that can be used as an entire year's curriculum. Volume 1 features artists whose names begin with "A" through "M." Volume 2 covers artists whose names begin with "N" through "Z." Each section focuses on a different artist and includes a teacher's guide, an example of the artist's style of work, a letter form for student work, a sketch of the artist, a sheet for a student biography of the artist, a question/answer sheet, and an activity sheet. For each lesson, the teacher's guide is divided into five parts: (1) suggested media and grade level; (2) "Arts Integration"; (3) "Bulletin Board Ideas"; (4) "Contemporaries of the Artist"; and (5) a brief biography of the artist that is suitable to read to students. Activities are designed to encourage reflective thinking while students work in the style of the featured artist. The volumes conclude with seven appendices covering subjects for arts integration, time and birthplace line, art test or an intellectual activity, answers to the art test, a letter to parents, an answer key for the artist's biography, and resources for information about women artists.
