Fleer, Marilyn; Linke, Pam
AECA Research in Practice Series, v6 n2 1999
This issue of the Australian Early Childhood Association Research in Practice Series discusses how educators can observe and respond appropriately to the infants in their care. The booklet examines the two major opportunities for early childhood educators that have been shown to influence outcomes for infants: (1) the opportunity to help infants make sense of their world; and (2) the opportunity to provide an emotionally sustaining environment to enable them to make the most of their learning capabilities. The booklet discusses using infant care tasks such as diaper changing and dressing to support development and features a range of interactional games for infants from birth to 3 months, 3 to 6 months, and 6 to 12 months. The booklet further describes relationship-building activities involving responsive communication, including imitation and turn taking, and considers the development of attachment relationships. The booklet also discusses cross-cultural issues. (Contains 13 references and resources.) (KB)
