Foreign Language Programs in Tennessee Public Schools, 1978-79.
Campana, Phillip J.
This study is an attempt to identify levels of support for foreign language programs in Tennessee within individual schools, school systems, counties, and congressional districts. Extensive charts, tables, and maps accompany the discussion of availability of foreign languages, support of foreign languages, enrollment in foreign language classes, and teacher populations. Results indicate that the state, as a whole, is not providing an adequate breadth of depth of foreign language instruction. It is recommended that a variety of programs be instituted in the various counties. With this practice, rural students will not be denied the opportunity to study a foreign language. (JK)
