The effective use of public relations by educators is the general topic addressed by these 18 articles collected from past issues of the "Journal of Educational Communication." The first section stresses planning and management with articles on opportunities made available by crises; the combination of effective communication with efficient management; the involvement of women in management; the development of a year-round community relations program; and the self-serving uses of poor communication. The second section looks at internal communications channels, including both the informal "grapevine" and official house organs. Developing an "authorized grapevine," communicating with minority audiences, and encouraging home visits by teachers are aspects of external communication presented in the third section. A section on the media concerns press relations and the uses of cable television. Preparation for tax referenda and budget development involving public relations are discussed in a fifth section.
