Availability Data and Recruitability Factors for Academic Units Within Communications and Fine Arts.
McCauliff, Mary Lou; Askew, Ken E., Jr.
This report presents information drawn from a two-part study undertaken by the College of Communications and Fine Arts at Southern Illinois University (Carbondale) as part of that university's affirmative action efforts with regard to recruiting and hiring minority group members and females. The first chapter of the report presents the background of the study, its rationale, and its objectives. The second chapter discusses each of the two phases of the study. (The first phase concerned the gathering of availability data to be used in generating affirmative action goals for the eight academic areas within the College and for similar areas at other universities; the second phase sought to determine what percentage of females and minorities identified in Phase One were"recruitable.") The third chapter presents an analysis of Phase One results for the areas of art, music, radio and television, theatre, speech pathology and audiology, speech communication, cinema, photography, and journalism and Phase Two results for the areas of music, radio and television, theatre, speech pathology and audiology, speech communication, cinema, and journalism. The fourth chapter offers conclusions. Seven appendixes provide lists of graduate program directories, of programs offering degrees required for faculty employment in the College of Communications and Fine Arts, and of professional organization membership directories, as well as copies of forms used in each phase of the study.
