Training Manual. On-Site Evaluation of Teacher Education Programs.
Alaska State Dept. of Education, Juneau.
This training manual is designed to prepare program specialists to act as members of visiting teams whose task it is to evaluate college teacher education programs. The responsibility of the program specialist is to verify the accuracy of the self-study reports provided by the individual colleges, as well as to assess the college's teacher education curriculum. A simulated situation containing fictionalized self-study materials but authentic evaluation forms (required by the Department of Education) is presented. The status of the colleges program is based on application of criteria contained in "Standards for the Approval of Teacher Education Programs for Alaska." This training package highlights the activity of the program specialist prior to arrival on campus, and emphasizes the procedures implemented during an on-site review. (JD)
