A Teacher's Guide to Understanding the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children--Revised. Understanding the WICS-R: A Guide for Teachers.
Kissel, Stanley; Kissel, Pearl
The major purpose of this work is to provide information for teachers about intelligence testing; more specifically, how the revised Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-R) can be used practically. The purpose is not to make teachers into testers, but rather to make them more sophisticiated users of the information that they obtain from their consultations with school psychologists, from their reading of test reports on children in their classes, or from their perusuals of student's permanent records. Furthermore, it is the intention to provide the classroom teacher with sufficient understanding of the WISC-R to be an active partner in planning remedial programs for deficient learners. A description and explanation of the six verbal subtests (information, comprehension, arithmetic, similarities, vocabulary and digit span) and the six performance subtests (picture completion, picture arrangement, block design, object assembly, coding, and mazes) are presented. A case illustration of a nine year old child's profile is provided, followed by interpretations and recommendations. (Author/RD)
