Dynamic Anatomy.
Hogarth, Burne
This student artist's handbook uses drawings and diagrams to demonstrate the basic structure, proportions, and expressive nature of the human form from an artist's point of view. Emphasis is placed upon the relationship of mass to movement. Drawings of the figure in action reveal the rhythmic relationship of muscles and their effect upon surface form. Foreshortening is demonstrated. Exemplar drawings by Michaelangelo, Correggio, Rodin, Kandinsky, and Picasso are shown. Following an introduction, the guide is organized into chapters: (1) "Tools and Materials"; (2) "Skeleton"; (3) "Muscles"; and (4) "Female Figure." A list of suppliers and an index conclude the book.
