This brochure provides information for U.S. students who wish to study abroad in order to help them make the study experience successful and with as little mishap as possible. The brochure first covers the planning stage in which advice is given on consultation, investigating study-abroad options, arranging transfer of academic credit, choosing a location, obtaining familiarity with the laws and quotas that affect direct enrollment, and traveling with disabilities. Next, several educational choices are examined that include graduate and secondary programs as well as information on admission to foreign universities. Different options for employment are also discussed, including internships, workcamps, and the possibility for teaching. The final three sections discuss financial assistance, traveling and living arrangements, and provides information on Institute of International Education and Council on International Educational Exchange study abroad programs that currently exist in other countries. The brochure concludes with lists of resources for further information. (GLR)
