This guide for the public provides information on ways to address homelessness within the context of community development. The following articles issued by the Homelessness Information Exchange are included as Sections 1, 2, and 3: (1) "The Problem of Homelessness Nationwide"; (2) "Ways You Can Help the Homeless"; and (3) "Building a Coalition in Your Community." Section 4 contains the following printed materials issued by other organizations about homelessness: (1) "Check List for Action" (the National Mental Health Association); (2) "Policy Priorities: Housing and Homelessness" and "Myths: Housing and Homelessness" (the Campaign to End Hunger and Homelessness); (3) "What Parishes Can Do to Implement the Economic Pastoral" (the U.S. Catholic Conference); (4) "How to Sponsor a Homeless Person or Family" and "Home Kits for Homeless Persons" (the Atlanta Coalition for the Homeless); and (5) "The Homeless: Myths vs. Reality" (the Democratic Study Group). Section 5 includes a list of national and local organizations to contact for further information on hunger and homelessness. Section 6, the Bibliography, contains 15 references. Section 7 contains a list of eight free publications available to the public. Section 8 includes descriptions of, and information on, 11 video tapes on homelessness.
