College Planning Information for Seniors, 1987-88.
Forsyth, Dolores I.
This document provides information on college planning and was developed for high school seniors attending Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, Illinois. Although some information is specific to Lyons Township seniors, most of the information is relevant to college-bound students in general. Six steps in applying to college are outlined: (1) obtaining an application; (2) checking for deadlines; (3) having test scores sent to colleges; (4) completing the application; (5) filing the application; and (6) applying for on-campus housing. Financial aid and scholarship information and resources for obtaining further information are included. A section on how to choose a college lists basic considerations and things not to do in making a choice. Students are encouraged to gather information on colleges from such sources as college representatives, Guidance Information System files, reference books, videos, counselor and college consultants, college night programs, and college visits. Things to look for or ask about in choosing or visiting a college are discussed and questions are posed in the areas of entrance requirements, instructional services and equipment, housing and dining facilities, personnel and health services, special and recreational facilities, and college costs. Terms students should be familiar with are defined under the headings of types of schools, admissions policies, college calendar systems, and scholastic regulations. A college information worksheet, a college selection worksheet, a college admissions check list, and a testing record are included. (NB)
