The Arts and 504: A 504 Handbook for Accessible Arts Programming.
Barrier Free Environments, Inc., Raleigh, NC.
Community and educational organizations are provided with guidelines for complying with the National Endowment for the Arts 504 Regulations for incorporating the needs of the disabled into programming efforts. Information is presented in three chapters. Chapter 1 focuses on the 504 regulations. Following an introduction, subsections describe the background of the regulations, highlight major features of the regulations, outline steps for complying with the regulations, and provide answers to commonly asked questions. Chapter 2 contains separate sections on 504 provisions such as parking; entrances; water fountains; rest rooms; telephones; warning signals; special communication measures; as well as a section which looks at how these provisions apply to each of the arts areas. Chapter 3 consists of sections on audience development, staff training, and information about disabilities. A conclusion encourages organizations to comply with the 504 regulations. (LP)
