Adult Student Assessment Resource Guide. Adult Competency Based Diploma Project.

Assessment instruments for use with adult learners are summarized; findings of a test use survey of 163 California districts serving adult students are given; and management techniques for administering large and small group tests are suggested. Forms for the evaluation of test instruments and for an assessment survey are appended. Tests reviewed in this publication are divided into three types: applied performance tests (APTs), norm referenced tests (NRTs), and criterion referenced tests (CRTs). For each assessment instrument, the following information is given: title, author, source, publication date, type, use, description, and management. Some results of the survey are: (1) not all respondents have a program of formal assessment; (2) less than half of those who do are dissatisfied with their evaluation program; (3) many need assistance with testing procedures or with the coordination of tasks and information among counselors, assessment personnel, teachers, and administrators; and (4) specific assessment needs occur in adult basic education, English as a second language, high school completion programs, competency based graduation requirements, and vocational and functional life skills program.
