101+ Ways to Stimulate Conversation in a Foreign Language.
Freeman, G. Ronald
This teacher's guide suggests strategies to be used for teaching conversation in a second language. The small-group method is advocated where the students present the same conversational activity several times, thus reinforcing skills. The underlying philosophy is that the students are responsible for the success of class discussions and group conversation. The activities discussed can be adapted or modified as appropriate for each class and for the teaching style of the instructor. The methods are discussed in six sections: audiovisual strategies; communicative games; interview and questionnaires; values clarification; role playing and problem solving; and potpourri. References cited in the text are included in a bibliography at the conclusion of the activities list. (NCR)
