This document presents the National Apprenticeship and Training Standards for the apprenticeship program for orthotic and/or prosthetic technicians. These standards cover the following areas: definitions; qualifications for apprenticeship; apprenticeship agreement; term of apprenticeship and credit for previous experience; probationary period, hours of work, salaries; ratio; apprentice records, reports, and examinations; progress reports; adjusting differences; work processes; related instruction; accident prevention; certificate of completion of apprenticeship; equal opportunity in apprenticeship; and modification of national standards. Also presented are recommendations for adapting the national standards to local use and program supervision. The appendixes include work processes for orthotic technicians and prosthetic technicians, forms for apprentice recordkeeping and the apprenticeship agreement, and a discussion of the federal laws and regulations affecting the employment of apprentices.
