Travel and Tourism Module. An Advanced-Level Option For Distribution and Marketing.

Intended as an advanced option for distributive education students in the twelfth grade, this travel and tourism module is designed to cover a minimum of ten weeks or a maximum of twenty weeks. Introductory material includes information on employment demands, administrative considerations, course format, teaching suggestions, expected outcomes, and overview of the course. Major content is presented under two content areas--hotel and lodging; and recreation, tourism, and transportation. The section on hotel and lodging includes nine units, covering such topics as development and growth, careers in lodging, front office procedure, advertising and sales promotion, and hotel law. The section on recreation, tourism, and transportation includes six units, covering such topics as fundamentals of ticketing, tours, and the travel agency. Each of the units includes a unit title, performance objectives and corresponding subject content areas, and a list of suggested activities. A list of hotel terminology, skills needed by a travel counselor, typical occupations in the travel and transportation services, and a bibliography are appended. (SH)
