This packet consists of eight brochures which comprise a National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) program in parent education. Designed for parents of elementary school children, the brochures can be used at PTA meetings, for parent discussion groups or by individual parents interested in specific aspects of child rearing. Each brochure discusses current research or issues related to a specific topic and attempts to help parents to evaluate issues related to parenting and to encourage parents to pursue self-education on specific topics. Each brochure also includes a list of questions for reflection or discussion. The following brochures are included in the packet: (1) Parent Education: Where It's Been and Where It's Going; (2) Children's Rights and How Parents Can Protect Them; (3) Work and the American Family; (4) The Family in Today's Educational World; (5) Parents, Children, and Preventive Medicine; (6) Children and Values: A Guide for Parents and Teachers; (7) Developing the Mind of the Child; and (8) The ABC's of Children's Social Development.
