Intended for vocational rehabilitation facilities, the document presents guidelines for the provision of vocational evaluation services to deaf persons. Explained in Section I is the vocational evaluation process, with chapters covering an introduction and overview, delivery of services to deaf clients, and objectives and process of the vocational evaluation. Section II covers the initial assessment, with chapters on utilization of biographical data, the evaluation interview, and psychometric assessment. Described in Section III is the use of work samples, with chapters covering the use of commercial work samples with hearing impaired clients, and the development of structural work samples in the vocational evaluation of deaf clients. Section IV reviews the use of situational assessment, with chapters on using the rehabilitation workshop for vocational evaluation, the use of vocational training areas, and the job tryout in an actual job setting in the community. Appended material includes summary descriptions of standardized tests used in vocational evaluation; explanations of tests, techniques, and procedures used in the initial assessment phase, sample data forms used in job analysis, guidelines for a model workshop, and a list of sources of additional information and assistance.
