Safety. Unit 8: A Core Curriculum of Related Instruction for Apprentices.

The safety education unit is presented to assist apprentices to acquire a general knowledge of procedures for insuring safety on the job. The unit consists of 10 modules: (1) the Occupational Safety and Health Act: safety and health bill of rights for workers; (2) accident prevention; (3) first aid; (4) accident reports; importance, use, and how to write one; (5) environment control and hazardous materials (Part 1910: Occupational Safety and Health Standards); (6) fires: how to prevent, control, and minimize losses; (7) personal protective equipment: how and when to use it; (8) ladders and scaffolds: types, use and maintenance; (9) materials handling: lifting, carrying, and placing materials; and (10) ropes, knots, chains, and slings. Each module contains information on the following areas: objectives, references (textbooks and other resources), content, instructional suggestions, and detailed background information. (EC)
