The teaching module is part of a set of materials designed to provide educators with activities infusing career education concepts into existing curriculum for the K-6 grade level. Building on the foundation laid in the teaching module dealing with personal interests and interpersonal relationships on the K-3 grade level, this module focuses on the understanding of the development and change of interests for students on the 4-6 grade level. The major objective of the five activities in the first of the three learning sequences is to describe the influences that lead to the development of interests through creative writing, fact finding, class discussion, rank ordering, and interviewing. The two activities in sequence 2 (graph making and discussion) revolve around exploring the maintenance of interests. Through discussion, the two activities in sequence 3 confront the students with projection into the future of their thoughts and the matching of future goals with present activities and interests. All learning sequences are introduced by: objectives, an overview, information for the teacher, and educator's preparation tasks. Each activity is organized under the headings of materials/resources and skill development, and contains detailed suggestions for the teacher's use. (JB)
