A Guide for Teaching the History and Culture of the Filipino Americans.
Ratermanis, Encarnacion A.
This guide provides information to teachers and students for understanding the history and culture of Filipino Americans. Because the guide contains informational background as well as suggested activities, it can be used within a variety of curricular offerings including elementary, junior high, and senior high levels. Part 1 contains background information on geography, early history (pre-Spanish era), Spanish colonialism, prelude to American occupation, American administration, and American influences. Parts 2 and 3 discuss Filipino immigration to the United States and life in California. Suggested instructional tools and activities are provided for each subtopic. A glossary, bibliography, lists, and translations of Tagalog words in common usage, and descriptions of Filipino dances are also included. (Author/DE)
