The Nutrient Connection. Nutrition Comes Alive. Level 5. Nutrition Educator's Guide and Work Sheets, Information Sheets, Puzzles, Letter to Parents. Revised Edition.
Peck, Leilani B.
This guide offers a nutrition education program for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6. Activities span all grades as well as activities for the specific level. Nutrition education objectives are stated for each grade level: (1) grade four--students will explore how to balance food intake and energy output for overall health and physical fitness; (2) grade five--students will be motivated to eat nutritious foods because they understand why the human body needs certain nutrients to function; and (3) grade six--students will become motivated to conserve food and food-related resources. An explanation is given of what the students should understand about the objective for each level. Activities for Grade 5 help students to: (1) establish that all living organisms are made of cells; (2) focus on the different nutrients human cells need and why they need them; and (3) explore how those nutrients get from food to the cells. A supplement to this guide contains worksheets, a letter for parents, puzzles, and recipes. A Spanish translation of the letter for parents is provided. (JD)
