Tutoring in Mathematics: A Strategy for Mainstreaming. Teacher Handbook.
Whitmore, Lynn A.; And Others
This handbook for teachers is designed for use as a short, self-contained program to help teachers add effective tutoring to their overall teaching program. The format of the course consists of four steps: (1) reading about new teaching skills; (2) seeing these skills demonstrated in films of actual teaching sessions; (3) practicing the skills with one or two students in a videotaped microteaching session; and (4) evaluating the videotaped performance. For each chapter, objectives, teaching skills, and a checklist of activities are given. Chapter topics include: (1) preparing for tutoring; (2) problem analysis; (3) demonstration; (4) evaluation and practice; and (5) arranging for tutoring time. (MP)
