Lessons in English. Book Two
Scott, Fred Newton; Southworth, Gordon A.
Benj. H. Sanborn Company
This series of "Lessons in English" comprises two books. Book I (ED622250), intended to be used within the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grades, covers either two or three years, according to the amount of time allowed for language work, the age of the pupils, and their previous training. Book II contains a systematic course in grammar and a series of lessons in composition. It amply provides for the English work of the three higher grammar grades. The course aims to place before the student an orderly and intelligible statement of the principles that determine the structure of words and sentences, furnish exercises for practice, and continue at a higher level the work in composition pursued in the lower grades. Teachers will find a great variety of material which they can use in accordance with their best judgment. Exercises are given for copying, for dictation, for reproduction of what has been learned, or read, or heard; for picture study and description; for letter-writing; for recording the results of observation and experience; for the use of words and their synonyms; and for practice in the use of correct forms.
