Think Analogies: Learning To Connect Words & Relationships. Level B, Book 1 [Grades 6-8].
Block, Cheryl
Noting that students who learn strategies to make and complete analogies benefit in many ways, the introduction to this workbook for grades six through eight defines analogies as comparisons between seemingly unrelated items. It notes that comparing an unfamiliar item to an item that is more familiar increases understanding. In addition, the introduction notes that the key to analogies is the relationship between word pairs, and as a result, students must learn to find similarities between the two pairs. After the introduction, the lessons include exercises on: finding common attributes; finding the exception; seeing relationships; making word pairs; classifying word pairs; what is an analogy; clues to reading analogies; classifying analogies; classification analogies; comparative analogies; descriptive analogies; completing analogies; recognizing correct analogies; complete the analogy pair; writing analogies; make the analogy; and game directions. Includes an answer key. (PM)
