Field Studies: One Step into the Outdoors.
Murphy, Tony
Outdoor education, which should be complementary to classroom work, is all of that learning which takes place in and about the outdoors. This book, which is aimed primarily at teachers and student groups, is a useful aid to those who may wish to investigate and explore the rich natural outdoor environment and consists of investigations which are designed to give students an insight into the ecological practices and principles used in the investigation of woodlands, bogs, moorlands, and lakes. The booklet is divided into two main areas: the first part consists of a description of the habitats at a height of 400 feet about sea level and a number of investigations for those areas; the second part has a brief geological description of the Cappanalea area in Ireland and a few investigations which deal specifically with this region. The investigations in the first part are grouped according to habitat, with sections on woodland, bogland/moorland, and the lakes/rivers. A section on general investigations is also included. Each investigation is graded as either introductory or advanced and includes an introduction, equipment list, procedure, results, and points for discussion. (MKR)
