Middletown Public Schools, CT.
This volume outlines the requirements and content of a second-year course in allied health occupations education that is designed to provide students with a practical understanding of the work done by physical therapists and physical therapy assistants. Addressed in the individual units of the course are the following topics: the health team for physical therapy patients; anatomy and physiology; exercise; fatigue and stress; obesity; pain; light, cold, heat, hydrotherapy, sound, and surgical treatment; and motivation techniques to encourage patients to participate in rehabilitation and regain independence. The first part of the volume sets forth standards pertaining to the primary objective of the course; its content; its target audience, duration, and prerequisites; and course requirements. The bulk of the guide comprises a series of unit outlines in which behavioral objectives are presented together with an implementation plan and a list of lesson assignments.
