Designed for use as a textbook for prospective vocational instructors or a handbook for practicing instructors, this guide provides information on the non-teaching responsibilities of the vocational instructor. Hundreds of hints, suggestions, strategies, techniques, and approaches for improving effectiveness, and numerous illustrations and sample materials have been provided for four broad categories of these responsibilities: recruiting, placement, follow-up, and miscellaneous responsibilities. In the first section users of the book are taught how to insure maximum enrollments in their classes through educational recruiting. Three units deal with establishing recruiting contacts, developing recruiting software, and implementing recruiting activities. The three units of section 2 are designed to help vocational instructors teach their students how to find, get, and keep a job after graduation. Section 3 (2 units) concerns both student follow-up and employer follow-up. The final section (2 units) covers such miscellaneous responsibilities as (1) improving instruction through inservice education, occupational up-dating, and membership in professional organizations and (2) effective use of and working with advisory committees.
