Management of Stress in Corrections. Participant's Handbook. Criminal Justice Research Utilization Program.
Dahl, James J.
This handbooks for participants contains materials for a three-day workshop on stress management in corrections. The workshop is intended for correctional administrators and managers, to enable them to produce a stress-management plan for identifying and remedying such problems as employee disability, alcoholism, drug abuse, and distressed inmate-staff problems. It begins with these introductory materials: overview of the National Criminal Justice Research Utilization Program, description of workshop design, and summary of data collected during a needs assessment survey. The twelve-session workshop is presented according to a three-day schedule (days 1 and 3 are half-day sessions). Materials for each session may include a goal statement, objectives, synopsis, information sheets, worksheets, small group discussion suggestions, list of references, and copies of visual aids. Titles of the twelve sessions are (1) Orientation and Introduction, (2) Stress in Corrections: Personal and Organizational, (3) State Team Stress Identification: Team Meeting I, (4) Organizational Stress in Corrections, (5) Responses to Stress, (6) Stress Response Identification: Team Meeting II, (7) Strategy Design, (8) Strategy Presentation, (9) Strategy Profiles, (10) Strategic Planning, (11) Development of Strategic Plans: Team Meeting III, and (12) Summary and Close.
