Janus Job Planner.
Jew, Wing; Tong, Robert
This career planning guide presents a systematic approach to choosing a career designed to help students understand the personal and environmental influences involved in job selection. The first of eight units in the guide encourages students to examine their work interest. Focusing on experiences, unit 2 helps students recognize the value of their past experiences in gaining employment. The third unit is designed to help students examine their preferences regarding working conditions. Unit 4 requires students to rank the following values in importance to them: money, fame, power, adventure, caring, creativity, and beauty. Units 5 and 6 encourage the student to examine pay and expenses and to practice in occupational decision making through the weighing of alternatives. In the seventh unit, students are asked to look at their own attitudes and to recognize how attitudes influence job performance. In the final unit students are asked to set some goals and make plans for reaching these goals. The guidebook concludes with an abbreviated job guide that offers students a brief introduction to jobs that might be most readily available to young people with limited formal education. Nine student inventories are included in the guide and a teachers manual is appended. (RA)
