Saint Patrick's Day Care Center, San Francisco, CA.
This Teacher Training Manual describes a project which developed and implemented a two semster series of workshops accompanied by field work experience to provide early childhood education teachers with the necessary skills to plan a multicultural program. The first part of the manual describes the project. Included are the Workshop Facilitator Questionnaire, project objectives, a calendar of events, descriptions of workshop content and field work assignments and evaluation methods. The model for a multicultural curriculum for early childhood education comprises the second half of the manual. Discussed are the initial planning process, how to develop a multicultural environment, the goals and objectives of curriculum development, how to organize an early childhood multiethnic curriculum using a thematic approach, the need to use community and parent resources, parent staff relationships and how to evaluate the curriculum. As an example of the thematic approach curriculum, a monthly schedule of activities and sample lesson plans for a unit on work are provided. The manual concludes with a bibliography of recommended readings. (Author/MP)
