Technostress: A Content Analysis.
Clute, Robin
This paper reports on a study that explores the literature of technostress--the anxiety over using technological equipment--both inside and outside of the library field. Fifty-eight unique articles were abstracted and evaluated. By using a coding sheet a measurement was taken of symptoms, reasons given for the "modern disease," and recommendations on how to combat technostress. The results of the coding sheet were then graphed. The results showed a high percentage of fear and anxiety as symptoms, and showed "performance anxiety" and "inexperience with computers" as the top two reasons given for technostress. Training was the most frequently cited recommendation to either avoid or combat technostress. Two appendices contain the coding sheet and tables and graphs illustrating the results.
