A Long Range Plan for the Future Development of Fayetteville Technical Institute with Special Reference to Community Needs Assessments.
Brum, Joseph, Jr.
During January 1984, Fayetteville Technical Institute (FTI) conducted a community assessment survey throughout Cumberland County to assess the knowledge, perceptions, and opinions about FTI of community residents, businesses, and high school students. Three survey instruments were designed to answer eight research questions: (1) what are the educational plans of community residents for the next five years; (2) how do people learn about the college, its offerings, and programs; (3) how frequently are community residents in contact with FTI; (4) what factors influence community residents to enroll or not enroll at FTI; (5) what are the factors influencing high school students' enrollment decisions; (6) are current FTI marketing strategies encouraging students to enroll; (7) are the educational needs of businesses, institutions, and government in the county being fulfilled; and (8) are there any noticeable differences between the responses of high school juniors and seniors. Surveys were mailed to 1,752 county residents, and 220 businesses, firms, and government agencies; and distributed to 893 high school juniors and seniors. The study report includes a literature review, information on the methods and findings of the survey, interpretations, conclusions, and recommendations. The survey instruments are appended.
